Legacies is part of a wider universe of shows and often, things can get a little tricky for the writers to keep up with — even if it is something they’ve written themselves. For several seasons now, the writers of Legacies have been getting things wrong and it seems that bloopers and continuity errors are part of the shows DNA.
We’ve collected some of the biggest bloopers and continuity errors and explained the reality behind them.
Timeline Errors
Legacies exists within a totally different timeline to both real life, and the wider TVDUniverse (The Vampire Diaries and The Originals) from which it was born. Therefore, keeping up with canonical events is hard.
Lizzie and Josie celebrate their sixteenth birthday in the first season and, given they were born in 2014, this places the timeline at 2030. We know, however, from previous time jumps, that the timeline stands at 2028, therefore there is a two-year discrepancy between their ages. Whilst it’s not a big deal, it’s enough to throw a lot of things off.
Legacies makes a second error with Josie and Lizzie’s birthdays in the second season, when they talk about the ascendant. They claim that they made the ascendant when they were five, but viewers of The Vampire Diaries will be aware that the particular episode takes place in 2018, and given their birthdate in 2014, they were actually 3 years and 11 months old.
The Heretics

This error is something becoming more important after the 10th and 11th episode of season 4. Viewers of The Vampire Diaries will be aware of a coven of witch-vampires known as ‘The Heretics’. These were the first vampire-witches ever created given they had no powers as a human — people paying attention to the third season of The Vampire Diaries will remember Rebekah’s explanation that one usually cannot be a vampire and a witch simultaneously.
Writers of The Vampire Diaries made it pretty clear that Heretics were a coven, not a species. They later made numerous errors in The Vampire Diaries when they referred to Kai Parker as a Heretic — he was a vampire-witch hybrid, but not a Heretic. At this point, the Heretics had long been murdered.
It seems, then, that executive producer Julie Plec, who produces Legacies and formerly produced The Vampire Diaries, has brought the error into this universe.
After Lizzie’s transition in episode 11 of season 4, numerous people, including Lizzie herself, refer to her as a Heretic. This is not true, given the Heretics were a coven and not a species. It seems that the writers are doing anything they can to incorporate the lore of The Vampire Diaries into Legacies without doing their research.
This is later proven in Legacies itself wherein the Heretics are referred to as “a group of six Gemini Siphoners”.

Bibrid’s and Originals
One of the most infuriating errors made by the writers focuses on hybrids and Original vampires.
After Hope becomes a tribrid, she is referred to by many as an “Original vampire”. Whilst she is the Original tribrid, she is not an Original vampire. Original vampires are, as established by both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, created through a spell which originated with Esther Mikaelson. Original’s are not created by being turned into vampires therefore Hope cannot be an Original.
Speaking of Hope’s former hybrid self — I know, hybrid, tribrid, very confusing — Lizzie makes an interesting remark when she is turned into a vampire and refers to herself as the “bibrid to [Hopes] tribrid“. Bibrid is something completely made up in this episode and the writers have clearly forgotten that the actual term, both in universe and in real life, for a mix of two species is a hybrid. Honestly, this error is one of the more embarrassing ones.
Conclusions
There you have it, some of the more annoying bloopers and continuity errors spotted within recent (and older) episodes of Legacies that lower the viewing experience. After all, there is a huge wiki out there for the writers to cross reference if they are ever unsure of anything.
