CD Projekt Red Confirms Cyberpunk 2077 Will Get a Sequel

When Cyberpunk 2077 was announced, the gaming world went crazy. An open-world action game similar in nature to Grand Theft Auto, the game was bound to become a smash hit. Despite this, however, the game was hit with delay after delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other issues.

Despite this, the game was a smash-hit when it was released in December 2020, and then pushed to further platforms in February 2022. Now, it looks like Cyberpunk 2077 is set to get a sequel.

The announcement that there will be a sequel to the game comes amid the release of further DLC for the game, titled Phantom Liberty. Adam Kiciński, the CEO fo CD Projekt Red, confirmed that the studio intends on develping the Cyberpunk IP further with a fully-fledged sequel to the game.

“We decided to release one large expansion using the potential of the new generation of consoles” Kiciński said to investors. “At the same time, I would like to emphasize that we want to further develop Cyberpunk’s IP. We have invested a lot of time and effort to build this brand and we definitely intend to develop it further.”

This means that Phantom Liberty will be the final DLC for Cyberpunk 2077, which makes sense given the studio is planning to expand the IP further with a sequel. The sequel will also use the Unreal Engine 5, rather than REDEngine it has been confirmed as the studio moves to using Unreal Engine for all further titles.

Other developments in the world of Cyberpunk 2077 include the release of an officially licensed modding tool for the game, REDMod, which is bound to keep players interested until the release of Phantom Liberty and eventually, the sequel to the game.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty will release next year on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Google Stadia.
