Florence Pugh, a rising star and protagonist of ‘Little Women’ is in talks with Legendary Entertainment to star as Princess Irulan in Dune: Part 2, the sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s critically acclaimed Dune.

Dune has been a huge hit for Villeneuve, smashing $400m at the box office when it released last year during a global pandemic no doubt. Production on the sequel is due to begin this summer, with the movie airing October 20, 2023. The Hollywood Reporter explains that the script is currently being written therefore there are no promises that Pugh will appear given her interests in other roles filming during the same period.

The sequel features much of the same cast from the first film, including Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya and many others.

Dune: Part 2 is expected to pick up directly after the end of the first film and adapts roughly the second half of Frank Herbert’s hit book, Dune. This will see Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) wrestle control of Arrakis from the Harkonnen’s all whilst settling among the Fremen with his mother, Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson). Villeneuve has been praised for his ability to adapt the Dune universe, something never previously thought possible — ignoring the large chunks Star Wars has borrowed over the years.

Pugh has an extensive history in movies and television and is currently appearing in the Disney+ series Hawkeye. Pugh has further plans to appear in ‘Oppenheimer’ alongside industry starts Cillian Murphy, Matt Damon and Emily Blunt; ‘Oppenheimer’ is directed by Christopher Nolan.

The announcement of Pugh’s interest in Dune came not long after Robert Pattinson made remarks that he has an interest in starring in the movie too — although nobody close to the movie has commented on Pattinson’s remarks.

Given clashes with filming, it is still preliminary at this moment whether Florence Pugh will appear as Princess Irulan in the upcoming movie, but we’ve got our fingers crossed.
